The purpose of this site is to improve the quality of life for youth as it pertains to HIV/AIDS. The news section is updated weekly with a focuss on HIV issues of international youth. The Positive Life web site began with the sponsorship of the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group (PACTG), which was funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). In June of 2006, the PACTG was merged with another organization and the new partnership was renamed "International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trails Group" (IMPAACT). Their funding was reduced and they could no longer sponsor this site at which time it became sponsored by the National Pediatric AIDS Network (NPAN). The original administrator of this site, NPAN's director Gary Gale, is continuing to administer Positive Life.
Gary began researching and advocating for people with HIV/AIDS in 1992 as a result of his wife and two young children being diagnosed with HIV. His wife Linda Brosio, died in 1995 and he started NPAN a year latter. Both children are now in college.
His daughter Alora Gale, has often spoken nationally on growing up with HIV. Searching her name will bring up several articles.
As a past co-chair of the PACTG's community group, Gary has worked with youth and families internationally. He has lead numerous workshops at national conferences, and assisted Discovery Channel and Nick News with TV specials on HIV. When UNICEF received a request from Russia for resources needed for both a caregiver's guide and school HIV policies, UNICEF contacted NPAN.
NPAN is a nonprofit with 501 (c) 3 status in the US.
